Do I need updated police checks? Received ITA.

Hi all,

I have received an invitation (yey!) but before I accept I want to make sure I don’t need updated police checks.

I already have the 2 I need as they were required to come to Canada on an IEC Visa.

I have one from the USA completed on the 23rd of April 2016. This was issued after I left America after my stay there. I have been back since but only on vacation.

I also have one from my home country England. This was completed on the 13th of January 2016. I left England to come to Canada on the 24th of November 2016 and haven’t been back since.

Do I need updated checks?

Finally, am I right in thinking if I’m currently residing in Canada I do not need a police check for Canada?

hey mate, i understand your concern. as per the rules i read and heard of and followed they have to be less than 3 months on the date you apply. but it’s recommended to apply for them when you are sure that you’ll get an invitation in the next two weeks.

You will need to obtain a new certificate for the UK as you need a check that has been issued after you last lived in the UK. No you don't need a Canadian check. Not 100% certain about the USA but I think you will be OK with the one you have. You definitely need a new one for the UK. You technically do not need a new one for the USA, but they can and might ask for a new one anyway.

Finally, am I right in thinking if I’m currently residing in Canada I do not need a police check for Canada?
Regardless of where you are residing, you do not need to provide a PCC from Canada with your application. It is entirely possible that IRCC needs you to do a finger-print based one later, but they will ask for that if needed, AFTER you apply.
