I don't have my drivers licence yet, though I really need one as Canada is so vast and the public transport system isn't great. I understand that you need to get a learner licence and then wait a year before you can get the full licence? Is there no way I can take lessons and then take the test for the full licence right away. I'm almost 24 a need a car ASAP. When living in the uk I only got my motorcycle licence and stupidly not my full licence! :(

Then yes - you'll need to go through a graduated licensing program. During the first year of that program you won't be able to drive unaccompanied and will have to follow certain other rules. Full details here:
