Hello Forum

I am sponsoring my common law partner to become a permanent resident. We are using the out of Canada application process. Form IMM 5409 (Statutory Declaration of Common Law Union) is indicated as one of the forms that the sponsor (me) has to fill out. However the document checklist (IMM 5491) indicates that I DO NOT need to use this form unless I have a cosigner (which I do not).

So should I use this form. Will it strengthen our application?

Thanks.

I am pretty sure you are right that you do not fill this out. If you read the form it is to be used when you AND your common-law partner are going to co-sponsor someone else. In this case you are not. You are the sole sponsor of your common-law partner (who in this case is the applicant).

Answer found! However I seem to find conflicting views whether i should have added this form in the application or not. Well what's done is done!
