Do I need to get international driving license before moving to canada from Indi

I will be moving to canada permanently in january along with my family from India. We r PR holders. Do I need to get an international driving license issued from India? I heard having this will make it easier to get license easier over there, or do I need to get some other document from RTO in India. I remember vaguely reading on this forum that we need to get a letter from Regional Transport Office which has issued our license that we need to get a letter of Good standing from them. Am I right?
When i enquired at my RTO, they said they will only issue my DL extract?
Can someone guide me on this

International driving license not required. Get RTO letter and bring your original license to canada. You need to pass online knowledge test and road test to get Canadian license. Without indian License, you need to wait for one year for road test.

thank you for the reply.
What letter should I get from the RTO, in bangalore they said it will be only a DL extract, which is basically a standard print out format with RTO seal. Its not on their letter head. Is that sufficient? Or is there something else I need to ask them .

Generally they used to give letter states that our license is true and genuine.
