Hi all...
I have query related to tax filing. I am a permanent resident of Canada, did soft landing in 2019 and went back to India...... I did got SIN number in 2019, but did not opened any bank account or anything.......Due to Covid got stuck and was able to came back to Canada around 20 December 2021. I opened new bank account after that, around 27 December 2021.

I did not had any income in Canada for 2019, 2020, 2021....was working in India and had income there and filed taxes there....... I found a new job recently in Canada which is permanent job and hence the tax is deducted from salary. Obviously I will be filing my tax returns in 2023.

However I wanted to know if I need to file tax return for 2019, 2020, 2021. In 2021 I was in Canada for about 2 weeks, but did NOT had any salary here.

Any guidance/reference please..... thanks....

@YVR123 - We have already relocated to Canada. As I mentioned in my previous post, we relocated to Canada around 20 December 2021. We started working for Canadian employer in Feb 2022, so obviously we will file 2022 tax return in 2023.

My question is wether we need to file 2021, 2020, 2019 tax returns... in those years we stayed in canada for respectively 10, 0, approx 5 days only.....

The information is on the link I posted. It's the official site. There are many factors and I do not want to reply because I do not know all the details of your situration. Read through the information and determine if you are a tax resident of those previous years. (highly likely that you are not)

1. No, you were not a tax resident for those 3 years.
