AOR Received.
waiting..
Hi guys.

do I need to change my sin after I get my OWP? I have SIN already because Priorto submitting my OWP I am an int'l student.

I don't think so, because both of those only give you temporary SIN numbers. It's no different from extending a permit or changing a permit. You get a new permanent SIN once you get your PR.

your sin. no. would be same and would have expire same date as your OWP does.

go to near Service Canada, they would know what you have.

similar question:

when you finally do get PR, does your SIN number stay the same as the expiring temporary one? or do they issue a completely different number?

completely different one.

start with 6.

so does this cause confusion with CRA (income taxes)? I don't recall a spot on the tax return where you mention a change of SIN, and it seems to me that income taxes (and carryover tax credits, etc) are all tracked by SIN

when you file for your tax return after you land, you can put your new SIN no. with your tax paper.

if you would hire accountant, let he/she know you have new SIN. no. your accountant will add your file.

Thats what I did, gave my new SIN no. to my accountant and he added with my paper.

I received Notice of assessment of 2015 with my new SIN NO. on it.

oh ok thanks, and your old returns were linked ok to the new SIN?

After you land as PR, you will go to near Service Canada and update your new status in Canada (give them your COPR). And they will cancel your old SIN (which start with 9 series) and give you a new permanent SIN. This new SIN will be linked to your old one automatically.

When you file your tax return after you become PR, remember to put your new SIN no. on your file and everything will be OK
