Hi everyone so I want to sponsor my spouse who filed a refugee claim a few years ago and he got denied, the thing is he never left the country they had sent for him to come in and he told me he never went. Can I sponsor him on my own or would we need a lawyer?

I would personally work with a lawyer.
The refused refugee application on its own isn't necessarily an issue. However the fact he was supposed to meet with CBSA and failed to attend really complicates the situation and it means he has an active deportation order out against him (possibly also a warrant)? How long ago was the refugee application refused?
It may make sense to apply outland rather than inland in case he's removed.

That means he failed to report to CBSA almost a decade ago. This is going to complicate your application. My guess is that you can expect longer processing times and an interview since IRCC will want to confirm it's a genuine relationship given his status in Canada and how long he's been here without status and with a deportation order pending.
