Hi guys

Got an approval on the working holiday visa.

I have been asked to go to canada and they'd stamp visa on arrival.

Do I need to buy insurance - is it a necessity?

Cheers

Yes - you need to have proof of insurance when you arrive.

If you arrive without insurance your work permit will not be issued. You need insurance for the full term of the WHV for your home country so if that term is 2 years you need 2 years insurance anything less then your permit will shortened to the term of your insurance with no possibility to extend. You also need to show access to 2500 cdn.

This is all explained in the CIC WHV web pages.

Anyway if you do not have insurance and you are unfortunate enough to get seriously ill then you might want hope you win the lottery hence need as a temp resident for insurance.

I signed up for Bc Msp while on my working holiday, I'm sure this is possible in most provinces

As PMM says without medical repatriation to your home country any local insurance or provincial health plan will not meet the IEC/WHV conditions and your IEC work permit will not be issued at the border.

Granted you might find CBSA do not bother looking too closely or sometimes at all at a policy but do you want to take the risk you are the one they follow through on.

Sure if a province allows or a company plan allows it for temp residents you can sign up but that will not meet the IEC entry requirement unfortunately.
