Hello,

I have to do a practicum for school for 8 weeks and somebody I know who is carpenter is willing to "hire" me.
But for this practicum I don't have to get paid and so I was wondering if I still need the LMIA ?
Because it costs 1000 dollar to get that LMIA right ?
What if I just want to volunteer ?

If somebody you help me that would be excellent , because I can't reach a CIC agent :/
Thanks

Daniel

Yes - you need an LMIA.

It doesn't matter that you're not getting paid. If you're going to be doing work that someone would normally be paid to do then you need a work permit - and in order to get a work permit you need an approved LMIA.

Yes - this will cost your employer $1K and also take several months to process.
