Do I need a "leaving letter"?

Hello,

I recently completed my 1 year of work experience for EE and received a reference letter from my employer. I am planning to quit my job for a few months to focus on IELTS and to visit my family overseas before I apply for PR. I've heard from someone that CIC may also require a "leaving letter" because I am quitting, and I am not too sure what that means as I've never heard of one before for EE. Is this true?
