I've been looking for this information for a few months now, but I have yet to find anything specific. I am a foreign worker with a 2 year work permit (locked to the company that provided me with a contract) under the International Experience Canada program and I am trying to understand whether I have to file my taxes or not. The available information is either too generic or not applicable and I don't want to file anything if I don't have to and incur a penalty risk for having done so.

Can anyone with more knowledge on this explain and point me to the right information? Thank you.

Of course you have to file taxes if you have been working in Canada. Why would you not think you don’t have to?

I remember reading someone saying (not in this forum, but on the internet) that foreign workers didn't have tax returns, so I am playing it safe and checking if that is true.

Don't take somebody's advice from somewhere on internet. In your case, best option is reach out to your employer taxation team for guidance.

That's definitely not an accurate statement.

Generally speaking, temporary foreign workers working in Canada need to file taxes.

Don't trust everything you read on the internet.
And YES, you have to file taxes.

Even a student with no income, has to file taxes.
Why?

Well you'd get some refund. I remember for 2018, I got around a thousand bucks as tax refund.
