I don't know for sure but when I went for my medicals the lab techs told me that if they so much as sense any tb its a no go. You have to first get treated and CIC has to be assured that you are 100% better. I wish whoever it is quick recovery.

If the TB is inactive, then you would most likely be allowed into Canada. But would require surveillance after arriving (periodic check-ups with a designated doctor in Canada to monitor if any symptoms arise). Also even if TB is inactive, there are many more tests that need to be done before being approved for PR, so CIC is certain it is indeed inactive.

More info here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/dmp-handbook/appendix-02.asp
6.3 Applicants identified as being excessive demand exempt may require further investigation to determine whether they present a risk to the public health or safety of Canadians. Active tuberculosis and untreated syphilis are examples of medical conditions that present a risk to the public health in Canada.

All applicants who are diagnosed clinically, radiologically or bacteriologically as having active pulmonary tuberculosis must be treated and rendered “inactive” before entry to Canada.

The applicant can still get the PR visa: first they have to be treated, then the visa will be issued. They will be monitored once in Canada. I had TB myself, and had to go to the TB clinic - everyone else there was obviously a recent immigrant.

Do spousal open work permit can have approved visa if he/she has latent tb? Because most of comments i read from other forum applications are more of PR, how about spousal visa applications?

if its just for a sowp then there is no need for a medical unless you are wanting to work in a proffesion of health care. so from that pov then you would be okay. As others have said it's just for your pr application that you would need a med.

Hi, my application for sowp is on process, same with others who had there med exams, i am one of those wo were diagnosed with latent tb. I just want to ask if its possible that i may be issued with visa? Ive had all my med test already and had medical clearance. I am just wondering if i can also be given a chance to have a visa for sowp application. Thanks!

Hi

May I know how did the spouse OWP application work for you? Did you get a the work permit, despite your latent TB? Thank you in advance.

Hello Ms. Canadianwoman,

Will additional test be required for the person with inactive TB?

I have inactive TB as well. And I had done the first medical exam when I arrived in Quebec city in 2012. Do you think I need to take an copy of report from the doctor who did the examination for me?

i had TB as a child, and i always get an old scar showing on my xrays. During my spousal application medicals, i was asked to provide further test information saying it was treated, and to prove its inactive(latent tb). CIC requested an afb smear and culture test(basically a test of your sputum for any sign of active TB) smear is instant, and culture takes 6-8 weeks to produce result. Both came out negative. CIC also requested a second xray after 3 months of my initial one. I took that and it showed my scar has not changed(good thing as it shows your TB is inactive) I got issued a TB clearance from my state Health department which was included in my doctors report a long with my sputum results, and CIC cleared me :). My COPR has medical surveillance which is basically a medical assessment by Canadian doctor to completely rule out TB thats active. The border official will give you instructions on how to complete the surveillance. (please ensure you complete it as it will affect your citizenship application). The entire procedure is covered by the provincial insurance. They give you 6 months to do it, so you will have gotten your provincial insurance depending on which province you are landing.

So NO latent TB will not hinder your application, Just make sure to complete the tests they ask for(i was given 90 days to complete further medical tests)..good luck and all the best

If you still have a copy of the report, I would take it. If not, it should be OK.

I just asked abt it because last yr they found a scar on my lungs but i i've never had any tb or pneumononia history. I will be having my medical nxt wk for our PR that's why i am worried.

Abt your question, according to what i have read, you will be under surveillance so you better keep on taking vitamins.but you dont have to worry as long as you will keep being healthy and negative from TB there's no reason they will bring you back.
