I got an email today which requests:

> FBI Clearance: If your residence period in the USA has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original FBI clearance certificate
> Divorce certificate: If previously married, please provide our office with a divorce certificate(s), application(s) for divorce and divorce order(s)

"The above information/documents must be received in our office within 30 days from the date of this letter. FBI certificates or proof of application for same must be provided within 90 days from the date of this letter. "

For the FBI certificate this is the second attempt I've made to get it as my two finger print cards were rejected the first time. The new prints just got there last week according to my mail tracking. I am worried as the technician noted my finger prints are very shallow and difficult to print and I included a note that says as such with my printed card this time in hopes they won't reject it again. If the prints are rejected again what would be the next step to take so my immigration application won't be rejected? If they are accepted but get here later than 90 days am I able to email in and request a time extension after explaining they didn't arrive yet? What do I do if they are rejected over and over due to shallow prints?

As for the divorce certificate, my county (Ventura County, California) does not issue divorce certificates and everything is done based on the legal judgement papers. My divorce lawyer had explained this to me as well. I had my names changed on everything including my social security number and also got a new marriage license with this document. I included it in my application so I am confused about what to do now. Should I send another scan of it and explain that my county doesn't use divorce certificates? I am really worried I will be rejected from lack of a divorce certificate.

Edit: I am able to look up and find my divorce case online in the court's case database, would it be good to link it to them?

1. consider going through a 3rd party channeler for your FBI report. CIC now accepts them. the cost is minimal and the report is received quickly.

2. gather every single piece of evidence for your divorce, have your attorney write a letter with the legal facts and write a cover letter explaining the situation. i wouldn't send a link to cic, i would recommend printing out what you can about the case or doing screen shots of websites that suggest that's the only thing available. the more information you give, the more they are willing to help you.

if you can't comply with their request within the time frame suggested, you need to notify cic and request an extension. when they see you are trying to get the requested documents, they will keep your file open. it's when you don't notify them of the issue that they close files.

My second print application was sent directly to the FBI as they sent me a new print card with the rejection letter, a case number attached to my letter and instructions to mail it all back to the FBI address. I'm unsure what to do if they reject the new card and if it would just be this process all over again or if I could use a channeler with the case number provided. I am going to look into emailing a channeler and see if I could get an idea of how to go about things.

I just sent an email to my lawyer explaining the divorce certificate situation and am waiting for his reply. I did realize that I most likely only included one page about my divorce in the application and looking at it today it is a two page document. I hope they only need the second page included but will wait back to see what the lawyer emails in case there is anything else I could send with those.

Sorry for double post.

It says in the email: "Please reply directly to this email and put your application number in the title.

Please note:

· Any documents submitted which are not in English or French must be accompanied by a notarized translation in either English or French.

· Please send us scanned versions of the requested documents. Please do not submit originals, unless otherwise stated, as documents submitted will not be returned.
· Please note that we can only accept unzipped PDF, JPG or .doc files that are attached to an email, totaling less than 5 MB."

So would I be able to scan the police certificate or would they still want it mailed? Where would I mail it to and how?

1) In this case, CIC is looking for your decree of divorce. They need every page.

2) Even though you're waiting on the FBI, its taking several weeks to get the report back. A channeler will be able to electronically submit (livescan) your prints, and some FBI channelers get the report back within a few minutes.

I would suggest either Fieldprint or myFBIreport. The latter was able to process my fingerprints and overnight the PCC. I had it all done within 48 hours.

Would I be able to use a channeler while in Canada? I am currently staying in Ontario right now. I did notice one channeler accepts rolled prints mailed in, and I emailed them about my situation to see what options I have. If they are able to do it more quickly than the FBI then I think I will go with a channeler despite already having a request at the FBI right now so my application won't be held up :) Though there would still be the issue of my husband needing to find time during a work day to take me to a printing technician, then time to mail it off, then time for the mail to get there, then time for the mail to get back, and of course all the costs related...

no, i believe they have to send the report to a us address. if you have family in the us, you can use their address and they can send it to you.

I just sent a lot of divorce related documents in an email replying to their request. Are they going to show any notification of these being accepted, or do they generally only contact when wanting more information? Is there any way to know if what I sent will be good enough?

And regarding the police certificate, would I scan this as well once I have it and email it, or would they want it mailed in? There's no indication of mailing it in listed in their email to me, but I have a feeling police certificates would be important to have the original of.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far =)

no

yes

not really. you can order your GSMC notes to see if anything is mentioned. otherwise, you'll know if it's good enough when they either a)ask for more info or b)send the approval letter

I would recommend doing both to cover your bases. scan a copy with the rest of the stuff you sent, and send the physical copy to your visa office. the Sponsor Approval letter should have information about how to send documents to your visa office.

Alrighty, thank you for the information! =) Sounds like all I need to do right now then is wait a bit to see if the FBI rejects my prints again while paying close attention to the 90 day time limit. The print technician told me she will reprint for free if they reject the prints and that I would need to wear gloves with lotion on overnight before going to redo them. I am thinking of using a channeler to speed things up if they are rejected again (and have the results sent to my father in the USA) so I can finally get this over with.
