distance education with work visa?

Hello all,
I was hoping for some answers regarding work and student visa rules. I understand that people entering canada on student visas must be full-time students in order to qualify for part-time work visas. However, my American partner would like to come to canada on a work visa and take some distance education courses through his home school in the States. Is this possible?

This is a question for the states, canada couldn't care less since your not even taking courses from a canadian school. I dont think the states care either tbh.
