Hello,

I am being sponsored by my wife who is a Canadian citizen. I am being asked for my birth certificate however the name is different on it from my current name, and also there is only a first name on it.

However, it has my father's full name on it and my mother's first name. And in the application on the family form I have listed them as my family members with their full names. Also, it has the correct date of birth which is the same as my passport so that helps.

Based on this information, do you think can I submit my birth certificate just as it is or do I need additional proof such as an affidavit from a lawyer here in Dubai where I live. Although I don't know if this is even possible here, I just read it on this forum.

My first name was changed when I was 4 months old simply because my parents changed their minds.

If your name was changed, there should be some sort of change of name document. Best to get a copy of that if at all possible.
Yes I have that document, however there is a tiny misspelling. It is off just by one letter. In my current passport and in life generally my name is spelled with an A but in this name changed document it's spelled with a U. However, the address in the name change document is the same as the birth certificate so that helps.

It's so annoying that it's a tiny mistake but not sure if I have to do anything about it or if I can submit it. I would appreciate your opinion, thanks so much

Do not know enough about the details but having the name change document with only one letter off is a lot better than having just the birth certificate with a different name.

You really should try to get corrected throughout (or revise name change to correspond to current) but you may be okay with what you have now; a short letter of explanation to explain the discrepancy suggested.
