Difference between single entry and multiple entry visitor visa?

My wife was recently granted a visitor visa for Canada. It will be her second time travelling here. Previously her visitor visa said “single” entry but this time is says “multiple”? We applied in the exact same way each time. What’s the difference here? Is it still valid for 6 months once she enters Canada? Is it just that we could cross the boarder and re-enter Canada if that was our plan?

She was given a one time entry as a test the first time to make sure she followed the rules. A multi-entry allows you to enter multiple times. Entry is still 6 months. If you want to try and extend the time do it online. She could be refused entry at the border if she has spent too much time in Canada.

Just to add that even with a multi entry visa the general advice is to spend as much time out of the country as that spent in the country given CBSA can suspect someone is living in the country on a visit visa especially if stays are counted in months. As above there is the extend stay as a visitor process that can be applied for from within Canada to avoid any risks associated with entering the country afresh even with a multi entry.
