Did not disclose marriage before ECOPR, Need help rectifying it

Hello All,

I was in Canada on a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) and applied for Permanent Residency (PR) in October 2024. I received my Portal 1 (P1) while I was in India in March 2025. During that time, I got married.

After returning to Canada, I mistakenly did not disclose my marriage and confirmed that I was single as i thought i should stick with my status as per applciation date (terrible mistake) . As a result, I received my eCOPR and PR card in April 2025. I realized this mistake in May 2025 and immediately raised multiple webforms to IRCC, informing them of my marital status change and requesting their guidance on how to proceed.

However, I have not received any response from IRCC after more than five months. I am unsure whether my marital status has been updated to “Married” in my IRCC profile.
My wife is currently in Canada on her own PGWP and TRV. I would now like to sponsor her for PR, but I am uncertain whether IRCC has corrected my file or if I need to take further action.

I am considering submitting another webform with all supporting documents, including:

• Marriage certificate
• My wife’s passport, PGWP, and TRV
• Previous webform submission numbers and dates

Could you please advise if this is the correct approach, or if there are additional steps I should take to rectify the omission of my marital status during my PR application? I understand this was an unintentional error and sincerely want to correct it.. Thank you for your time and assistance.

You cannot sponsor her as she was never declared before you got PR. You misrepresented yourself as single so cannot change status now . Once you were PR then no longer eligible to sponsor her. She needs to immigrate on her own merits. Get a lawyer to advise.

As per site...
When you apply for permanent residence, you must declare all your family members, even if they aren’t coming with you to Canada. They must also complete medical exams and pass background and security checks.

You should see a lawyer. Your mistake is indeed a terrible one, and as far as I'm aware, there is no procedure to rectify it after the fact.

In my view you did the correct thing by advising them - it at least provides a basis to claim you did attempt to fix it.*

That said: there's no procedure to update, there's no 'do-overs', and the primary (indeed only as far as I know) context in which this comes up is when you try to sponsor that spouse. And the 'normal' (that is expected) response from IRCC would be (eventually) a refusal on basis that you did not declare your spouse when/as required. If that happens, your recourse would be to appeal and/or eventually go to court (which will take quite a bit of time and has uncertain - read 'probably low' prospects of success). That 'ban' on sponsoring is lifetime.

So speak to a lawyer. It's serious and any comments or advice you get beyond 'see a lawyer' are not going to be definitive.

You should look into whether your spouse can qualify on their own - that would be faster.

Keep in mind: I'm not saying I support this policy (I don't - I think the lifetime ban is overly harsh and not commensurate with the policy reasons for it), just providing what I understand to be the facts.

* I /vaguely/ recall that there was a case, years ago, where a PR was able to get this resolved on basis that the PR had notified IRCC immediately somehow (or correction of COPR) - but the facts are quite different, in that the PR notified on the very next day (or went to the CBSA at airport to correct or similar), and what happened (self-reported) is not a precedent. It's possible there are court cases/appeals with some record that would be useful, another reason to speak to a lawyer.

Your base assumption, however, should be - as @Naturgrl stated - is that you will never be able to sponsor your spouse. Chances of overcoming this ban are not good.

Can my wife get her PR thorugh her express entry profile ? Will that cause any issue her current score is 484 , dental assitant with 2 year canadian experience but shes planning to wrote french exam whcih eventually increases her CRS score. If she apply for express entry profiel will that cause any issue ?

I know nothing about the scores.

But overall, no, she can apply on her own without worrying about anything (more than any others who apply on their own). For various reasons, some do apply on their own instead of through sponsorship, no issues. (An example is Quebec residents for whom spousal sponsorship is now limited/longer than in other provinces)

Is there any way where I can reapply for or wi to my wife included . I want to dissolve my current or status and reapply for pr using express entry . I have good score and will get ita on next draw on cec class . Is this a possibility ?
