Hi All,

My husband's designation as per his appointment letter from his IT company is Software Engineer. But, according to job duties and responsibilities his job comes under 2174... And also, he can not apply as software engineer as it is strictly mention in 2147(EXCEPT SOFTWARE ENGINEER) !!

So, we are planning to apply in 2174..computer programmer...

Is it the right decision... What else to do???

Hi,

If his duties match (70% or more) the description of 2174 then its fine to apply under computer programmer,

in general 2174 is for software programmers/developers and 2147 is more into network operation/design/configuration - so i dont believe someone can easily match both NOC codes unless
he has moved frequently between different roles within the organization & has a wide range of skills.

In my opinion - if 2147 is the perfect match then he might need to speak to his company about the title, as it can mislead CIC if he applies, (i.e. if they write Software Support Engineer/ Support Engineer/Integration Engineer/ IP Engineer / IT Engineer/ or Operation Engineer, ....Network Engineer) whichever is most relevant.

Hi emamabd,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

His company is not willing to change the Title !! As per their ISO... rules....
His all letters and docs are of "Software Engineer" designation.. But, It is clearly mention in his experience letter regarding his roles....
What do you suggest????

Hello ektaahm

Please refer to the following link to check the titles and job descriptions for professional falling in NOC 2174 described by HRSD Canada.

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=2174

If you can match at least 70% of your husband's job description to the "Main duties" described there then you can apply. We have come to realize that it is the job description that is more important rather than the title. You may need to add a letter to your application describing your situation.

Allow me to add here, the current situation without any intention to discourage you, that if you are planning to apply this year then it will be too late because 2174 is a hot NOC and we suspect that it may have already been filled.

Regards

in this case then apply under 2147 and include a cover letter to explain that although your title is software engineer but your duties match the NOC 2147

Thanks @emamabd & @ESZB,

The idea of attaching a cover letter seems to be a nice solution.

@ESZB - Is it so ??? But, the site shows only 15 complete applications !! And, as per my knowledge they have total 300 seats....!!!

Do you know at what time the category got filled last year ?????

last year this category was not on the eligible NOC list , it disappeared since quite a long time (since 2009 if i remember correctly).
The statistics shown on CIC website are of May...since 2 months have passed many people believe it could be filled by now.

I think you have nothing to loose, if you really want to come to canada - then try your best to file the application as soon as you can, the worst that could happen is that they return the application back to you (if the cap is reached) and also the fees will be returned.

Hello ektaahm

We have strong reasons to believe that those 15 completed applications are only up to 7th or 8th of May. there are at least 116 applicants of NOC 2174 and 19 have already got their PER. And as emamabd said.... most believe that NOC 2174 has already been filled by now. Its almost as if so many people were waiting for the FSW 2013 to open on 4th May. :-X

i would request you not to lose hope. Do try your luck.... you never know how it may favor you. Do consider Australia also as a second option.

For Australian PR you need to earn 60 points under their SkillSelect Scheme. They have the Expression of Interest (EOI) system so there's not "being late" in that. So good news is that Software Engineers are still in their Skilled Occupation List and you are not late.

First you need to get your credentials assessed by Australian Computer Society (ACS) and get the certificate of accreditation which is mandatory for the EOI.

Read all about SkillSelect in the following link:

http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/

P.S. Their Visa Class 189 is equivalent to Canada's FSWP which allows you to work anywhere in Australia. Best of Luck!
