Hi everyone,

I’m a minor in Canada (currently going from grade 8 to grade 9). I applied to extend my study permit together with my mom (she’s the primary applicant) back in May 2025, before my current permit expires this August.

The LOA (Letter of Acceptance) I submitted only covered the 2024/25 school year, which ended in June 2025. Now it’s July 2025, and our extension application is still in progress.

I’m worried:
– Will IRCC just issue my new permit only up to June 2025 since that’s what the LOA said, even though it’s already July?
– Or, since I’m a minor dependent in K–12 and we applied together, will they match my new permit to my mom’s permit length?
– Should I get a new letter from the school confirming I’m moving into grade 9 for the 2025/26 year and submit it via Webform?
– What are the chances they could outright refuse me just because my old LOA ended, even though I’m clearly continuing school?

Any advice or anyone with a similar experience would really help. I just want to make sure we do this right.

Thank you so much!

You will know when you get the study permit. You should get new LOA for Grade 9 if letter was just for the past year and not for 2025/26. They can refuse your without LOA.

What is your mother’s status and when does it expire? Has she applied for an extension as well? Your status is dependent on her status.

so should i add a grade 9 loa in the application i already put my grade 8 loa

Your SP is really dependent on her PGWP not your LOA although since you submitted last year’s you can send in a webform updating your grade 9 LOA.
yea i will do that but I just wanted to know if i don't do it can it lead to refusal and if they approve it will they extend it to june 2025 when the 24/25 school year ended my bad for asking so many questions i was a bit scared about it

Your SP is based on your mother’s PGWP length and approval and not your own studies. The study permit expiry date should coincide on your mother’s PGWP expiry date. Given you submitted the old LOA I would probably send an updated one to avoid any confusion.
