Hi! I'm natural-born U.S. Citizen living in the USA who is looking to move to Canada for permanent residency. My wife, who is a natural born Canadian citizen who lives in Canada, will sponsor me.

I have 18-year-old and 19-year-old sons (from a previous marriage) who live with me but are NOT moving to Canada with me.

My wife and I are going through all of the paperwork and we want to make sure everything is clear on what we should do. I have gotten FBI Identity Summary Checks done for me and my boys, official passport-style photos taken of us three, etc.

What exactly should should we pay and send in to the Canadian government so that they know it is only me and not my boys desiring to immigrate to Canada? We don't want anything to be rejected, sent back or delaying the process.

Has anyone gone through a similar situation?

Thanks in advance.

You should include them as non-accompanying. That is the best way not to slow down the process.

On my IMM0008, I have them checked as "No" on the question, "Will you accompany principal applicant to Canada?"

What fees and forms should I send in?

You don't pay fees for non-accompanying.

They fill out forms as directed in the guide. The fact they are not immigrating doesn't change that. They will also need to have medicals.

You should convince them to be included. Once they land, they can return to the US and have 3 years where their Canadian PR status remains safe.

Thanks, canuck_in_uk.

One is in the US military, and the other is attending university after high school graduation. No need to pay a few thousand $$$ if they won't have any intention of living up there. ;-)

It's only $150 per dependent to include them as accompanying.
