Wanted to understand the options available to us. My wife's son who has now decided to come to Canada has never had his Chinese passport done up before. As he works in the countryside, he will not get holidays until Feb. when he can go back to his hometown and get it done up (Chinese requirement).

If we get a letter asking for the passports (apparently Beijing is famous for asking for them early) before he can go home, how do I respond to CIC regarding this? Will they wait until then without delaying our processing? Will they delay everything until received?

Thank you

If CIC asks for the passport, explain the situation. AS your file is handled by a VO in China, they are most likely familiar with the process of getting a passport. be as specific as possible, and explain WHEN your stepson will be able to get his passport. Tell CIC that you will send his passport as soon as you have it. Send your wife's passport when CIC asks for it, and hopefully they can continue the process. They should be able to do at least the background checks for your wife, and they will have her passport, and for your stepson, as he is a minor, there are no background checks.

AS long as you communicate to CIC the reason why you're not sending the passport, it should be OK. Hopefully it won't delay your case too much. It will probably delay it a bit, but if there is no way for your stepson to get a passport sooner, then that's just the way it is...

Good luck,
