Hi All,

Hoping one of you might be able to help us. My wife has recently arrived in Canada as an immigrant via family sponsorship.
She has a 13 year old son that did not accompany her. He's currently living with Grandma to finish his school year. My wife has full custody.
All his info was submitted on our original application, including his medical exam.

Our question is how do we now go about bringing him to Canada ? Do we need to start an entire new application process ? Or is he already approved, and if so, what's the next step ?

thanks to all !

Yes - you will need to submit a brand new application to sponsor him. Use the application process here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

Thanks for your reply, we were afraid of this :(
Only because current processing times are now up to 17 months..Any idea if it goes faster for a dependent child ? Especially given they already have all his info ?
What if we brought him here on a tourist visa, and then filed for his PR from here ? Could we do that ?
The only reason we didn't bring him right away was to let him finish his school year...

The time will most likely be quicker, as 17 months is not a real average time it's more of a worst case time for the slowest 20% of apps in the world.

Yes you can bring him here as a visitor if he gets a TRV or TRP approved. Note that there is no inland option for sponsoring a dependent child, the only option is an outland application. So for him to stay in Canada during the process, you'll need to keep extending visitor status as it comes due. So there is no need to wait until he arrives in Canada to submit the app.

Also note he'll need new medical exam done, as first one is most likely expired.
