My application was received by CIC on Feb 9, 2009. I received a response back from them on March 2, 2009 and the application to immigrate was deneid as my occupation did not correspond to ANY of the eligible occupations. I have a degree in Finance from the Staten Island University, New York. I have been working as a finance manager in a firm for a few years now. I did verify several times before I sent in my application and even after I received it and my occupation is CLEALY listed as one of the 38. I'm not sure what to do now.... please advise...

What is written in your refusal letter? Mind stating/writing it here!!

What noc code did u use? What tasks did u list? Finance manager is definitely there. I have applied under same. Applied on 14jan but no response yet from novascotia.

maybe you could provide us what noc code you used and what duties you wrote down.

Staten Island University, New York is reconized from wes (world education service).

sounds like the problem wasn't his/her education but NOC.

here goes....

We have assessed your declared occupations against the list of occupations identified by the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism and published in the Canada Gazette on 28 November 2008. Your Occupations do not correspond to any of the elgible occupations.
As your occupations are not included on the list of eligble occupations, we are unable to process your application.

The fees that you have paid are refundable............

This is scary! If your occupation does exist on the list and your duties match those of the NOC, then they must have approved it! Are you sure both the code and main duties corresponded to the ones on the list? Could you give us your NOC and list of duties so that we can check?

Thanks

If the NOC code you used on IMM0008 Schedule 3 was indeed 0111, I would send the application back with a letter stating that the reason for rejection set forth on their letter was false. Include a page of the minister's instruction and highlight 0111.

Ask them to fix their error and retain your original file date.

But if you didn't use 0111 then you can't blame them for not guessing that you were a financial manager. Fix the code and refile.

is what Winky says is possible or is it a post by someone to create sensationalism? Someone with just 2nd post.

This is my first post, but I can imagine coming online for the first time on canadavisa.com just to complain after being rejected.

The NOC code I used was 1114 as per http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/Occupations.aspx?val=1
1114 is other financial officers if you click further on View all titles http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/ViewAllTitles.aspx?val=1&val1=1114

I felt that alot of the titles here correspond to the various positions I've held over the past few years..... I called CIC Canada and they asked me to send the forms in with this list printed again.
Did I use the wrong NOC code??

Not sure what I should be doing next !

1114 is on the NOC matrix. All jobs are on the NOC matrix.

1114 is NOT on the ministerial list. You need a job on the ministerial list.

If you dont fit one of the jobs on the ministerial list and held that job for at least 12 months in the last 10 years (equivalent of full time), then don't do anything, you'd be wasting your time..

The 38 job ministerial list can be found here:
