I'm middle-aged, 44. I was working as a manager in my country, and was very concerned did to this 'Canadian experience' stuff plus my age.
Last year when I came, I immediately started working in a supermarket while continued to apply in anything even remotely related to my field.
Got a job after about 3 months, 3 levels down the managerial job I was doing.
Still accepted it even though the money was low.
Worked hard for about 6 months.

Now I'm moving to new position just 1 stay below the managerial position in a bigger company.

Just like that article says, it is important to speak proper English, even though accent doesn't matter.
I still feel that my English is not up to the mark, but hope it won't be a hurdle when I apply for more senior position after a few years.

I think a leader must be a good speaker.
