Hello everyone!
I have received my pr recently, but have not moved to Canada yet. My wedding is very soon, and I would like to move to Canada after that. However, my fiancee is not a pr, which makes me wonder what should be My next step. We are both outside of Canada, I have a pr,she does not and we want to move together. Is there a way? A temporary visa for her or something like that?
Thank you in advance!)

Where are you from? IF your wife resides in a visa-exempt country she won't have to apply for a TRV.

First question might be have you actually completed a landing for PR or have you just been approved ? Answer is key to any feedback on options.

Oh, we are not visa exempt and i have been approved. Havent landed yet

A Permanent Resident of Canada can sponsor his or her spouse, whether they are residing in Canada or not but the sponsor must provide proof that they can: -

*meet basic needs—such as food, clothing and shelter—for yourself and your family,
*support your relative financially
*make sure your spouse or relative does not need to ask for financial help from the government.

So, based on the fact that you're getting married you may sponsor your wife for permanent residence. However, it's not that straight forward, these things never are. You need to assess how long you've been dating prior to marriage and that you're not getting married just so your wife can emigrate to Canada - these are things CIC will look out for on your application.

You say you're not from a visa-exempt country so if you wish your spouse to reside with you immediately in Canada she will need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). If successful she'll obtain 6 months and can extend it within a month of expiry.

I hope it works out for you. Best wishes.

Thanks a lot! We have been dating for 5+ years, so there shouldnt be any problem with that. So, when she applies for temporary visa, it is an advantage that her husband is a pr, am i correct?

Why is it so important?

If you marry before landing and going through the COPR signing procedure, you will almost certainly be committing misrepresentation as your COPR will list you as single with no dependant spouse. You will then never be able to sponsor your spouse. You must either marry AFTER landing, or marry and add your new spouse to the application BEFORE you land.

This is THE most important question.

Have you landed yet and become a PR? We can't answer any of your other questions accurately until you answer this very important question.

"Landing" is when they actually give you your PR. If you don't have it yet, then it is probably the next step. Also I read that your fiancee is from a non-visa exempt country, so you may want to get a visitor visa.

No, I have not landed yet. Im planning to land by myself, get My pr card, theb return and get married. So, I guess, the next step for my fiancee will be applying for visitor visa and then starting with the process of becoming a pr.

Have you and your fiancee lived together? If so, has it been more than 12 months?

If not, then you can go land, get married, and then go back to Canada to sponsor your spouse. As a PR, you must be residing in Canada throughout the process. If you do not want to be apart, then it might be better to wait, get married, return your visa and COPR, and add your spouse to your application. It will take longer, but you will both get your PR at the same time.

If you have not landed and this marriage happened after COPR, you can inform CIC about the change in your status. They will ask for some additional document and ROLF. That way she will get a COPR with you and you both can Land together. This won't cause any misrepresentation as long as this marriage didn't happened during the processing of the case. If that is the case then you are hiding information that might have impacted your case.

You can land, get your PR card, then go back to your country and get married. You would then have to return to Canada and stay here while the application to sponsor your spouse is being processed. If she can get a visitor visa, she can visit you here.

DO NOT get married first, then land using the PR visa you currently have. The COPR you have now has you listed as single; if you land as single when you are actually married, you will never be able to sponsor your wife.

You could get married first, then apply to have your wife added to your current application. CIC will then rescind your current COPR, examine your wife, and issue you two new PR visas so you can land together.

If you have lived for 12 months or more with this woman, you must add her to your application as your common-law spouse before you land.

Thank you guys for your help. Very helpful! I also wanted to ask, if it would be a good idea to register my fiancee for, keys say, language or any other professional course in Canada and get a student visa. And once shes there, i would apply as a sponsor?
