Hi my spousal residence permit application has been taking forever now into my 2nd year of waiting (2 years 3 months) for it to be processed (received APR back in May 2019) Recently had to redo my medical too.

Anyway my question is, I’m currently holding an OWP and have submitted an extension for it. I received a letter from IRCC and wanted to ask for some clarification regarding the part about the dates ....” August 16,2021 or until a decision is made “whichever comes first”
…..what does it mean? What if AUG 16 passes and I haven’t heard back, does it mean I have to stop working ? Appreciate if anyone can help clarify this. Thank you!

“This confirms that your application has been received by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) …………(date)
Please attach this letter to your present work permit number…. as proof that you are authorized to continue working with the same conditions until (date) or until a decision is made on your application, whichever is first. This extended period of work is authorized as per subsection 186( u)of the Immigration and Refugee protection.
If you leave Canada before a decision is made on your application, you will no longer be authorized to continue working. ….”

[[Conditions as on my OWP -
-Unless authorized prohibited from attending any educational institution or taking any academic, professional or vocational training courses.
-Not valid for employment in businesses related to sex trade such as strip clubs, massage parlors or escort services. ]]

Can I continue to work after the (date) if I don’t hear back from them by then? Just worried if there will be further delays due to Covid in their processing times.

Seens like you can work until the date they gave you unless they make the decision sooner. I interpreted that letter to mean you won't be able to legally work beyond the date in the letter unless a decision is made before then
