Hello,

Go ahead to submit your passport. The visa will be issued based on the validity of the passport which gives you time to travel before the start of the new class resumption date.

Your study permit will be issued at the POE in Canada. So no worries.

Best of Luck

Go ahead with passport submission, like others states, Show your new LOA at POE, your permit is gonna be on the basis of your new LOA, later on apply for extension of your study visa few months prior to expiry date.

Do we still need to inform IRCC with new LOA in advance?

Even if a new study permit is issued at the border with the right dates, the visa validity should somewhat match with the study permit or you will loose your status in Canada by overstaying. It can become a serious issue if you don't apply extension in time or even get refused an extension or affect future applications if you overstay.

What? Stop spreading misinformation because that is simply not true.

A TRV only determines your eligibility to enter Canada as a foreigner. If you're on a study or work permit then it's the permit that determines the duration of your stay. You can stay as long as permit is valid even if your TRV is expired.

What you can't do is re-enter Canada if you were to leave on an expired TRV (and even that restriction has a big exception: Canada's land border with St. Pierre and Miquelon and the USA - as long as you traveled to just those places and not outside of them - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare-arrival.html)

Perfect yes agreed. We can apply for visa even if it's expired during validity of study permit. We can stay as long as we have a valid temporary/permanent residence document.

I never said one can't stay in Canada if the TRV is expired. I am talking about the risks about overstaying. In practicality usually one does not apply an extension in time within Canada. I have seen many getting into this bandwagon and regretting later. Theory is different from practicality. I think you are new here. Visa validity should somewhat match with the study permit in terms of a norm , do understand the context.

Incase your study permit is not longer than your deferred course, you have two options:

1. Apply for study permit extension before it expires in well advance with your new LOA. No objection from CIC

2. Incase of study permit matching with your new LOA and doesn't have sufficient time to receive your course completion for applying pgwp with expired visa, apply for new visa to avoid any consequences. I have few contacts who does this option.

But best to go for first option. Hope this helps! Different suggestions from people can hit you but just take your call with your own research. We, others doesn't know your full picture.

Regardless of your intention, it's factually wrong information. There's no "bandwagon" here. I'm not telling anyone that they should delay in applying for an extension to their TRV - but OP's situation has nothing to do with an extension.

"Visa validity should somewhat match with the study permit in terms of a norm"
The only reason it's "recommended" has nothing to do with IRCC norms but because the dates of both the TRV and permit aligning saves you the 'headache' of tracking 2 wildly different expiration dates. But if you can set basic reminders on your phone's calendar app and you're not lazy then it doesn't matter.

Hello, I've got my Canadian Student visa approved and stamped on my passport on July 2021 and my program start date was sept 2021 but I couldn't attend classes so I cancelled it and applied again and got admission in the same course and same DLI for sept 2022, do I need to apply again for my Visa? Although, I have the same DLI and same course but still do I need to reapply again, can I not show my new valid LOA which I have received. Please let me know?
I do have a valid Visa till 2023.. please do let me know.
