Quick question for those who've sent web form inquiries for stalled citizenship apps:

When asking about a file stuck at "Background check and prohibition" with no updates for months:
→ Did a SHORT message (2-3 sentences) work better?
→ Or a MORE DETAILED message (bullet points, TIMELINE, specific questions)?

Context: Applied Sep 2024, last update Feb 10, 2025, now past 13-month processing time.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

You can do both. Nothing will work as it's with CSIS and not with IRCC. You'll get a generic reply anyways

Thanks! I've heard web form/ATIP can still help build a paper trail for potential mandamus down the line. Does that still hold true when CSIS is involved, or does it change the equation ( in terms of detailed vs short message)?

Thanks again!

Hi friends,
I have started a common thread for all of us waiting for more than a year to get together and share our timelines and progress.
Please add and update your case in the table in that thread.

It has been over 13 months since I last received any updates, and more than 18 months since I first applied. At this point, I’m unsure what steps to take next. The prolonged wait has become increasingly disheartening.

I’ve reviewed my ATIP notes, and like many others, my application appears to be stuck at “Grant Clearance Pending.” I can’t help but wonder how much longer this stage will take. The uncertainty is really starting to take a toll on my mental health.

Additionally, my PR card is nearing its expiry. I had hoped not to go through the renewal process before receiving my citizenship, but now I’m uncertain whether I should wait a bit longer or proceed with renewing it now.

For those who have recently renewed their PR cards, could you please share your experience? Specifically, how long did it take to receive the card after applying, and did you face any challenges during the process?
Go ahead and renew your PR card. Spouse did it, got the new card by mail in less than 60 days. Pretty quick for those with no issues and in-country (and if you applied for citizenship recently, your residency obligation should be good too). It's fairly easy and not that time consuming.

Citizenship: don't let it affect your health. There's usually nothing wrong, and just in a queue for security clearances.

Yes, that's easy to say, harder to do, but try not to worry about it. Waiting is the most likely to work.

You can consider speaking to a lawyer about mandamus, but it's going to cost money, and only you can decide if that's worth it.

Dec 2024/Jan 2025 applicant here:

Application Submitted: Dec 22, 2024
AOR: Jan 5, 2025
Request for Fingerprints: Feb 19, 2025 (done next day)
Test Taken: Mar 13, 2025
Citizenship Test Updated: Mar 21, 2025
Language & PP both completed: Nov 27, 2025
Prohibitions: Pending
Background Verification : Pending (Criminality is passed, security is pending)

I requested GCMS Notes (ATIP) in May.
The latest update in that was on 27 Nov, 2025 and it says “CMB update requested”

What is this cmb update? Anyone heard of it?
And is this a standard procedure?

Hello,

I got a ghost update on June 30th, but nothing has changed. I am not sure if i should be expecting something as typically the actual update shows up a few days after the ghost update.

I am wondering if it has something to do with my PR Card renewal that i sent in. I sent the renewal application on June 29th, one day before the ghost update.

Can anyone who has renewed PR Card confirm if the ghost update is something pertaining to that if it the ghost update is independent of the PR application and i should be keeping an eye out for an actual update.

I am hoping for background clearance.

Thanks in advance,
When I applied for PR card renewal. I didn't get any ghost update on my citizenship application. I dont think they're connected.
