I just noticed on the generic app form I believe IMM0008 , date you entered in commonlaw relationship. I mistakenly put the date we started living together, if this is an honest mistake will this commonlaw app be denied?

Re: Common law question

You need to correct that mistake ASAP. As soon as you receive AOR (which will give you your file number), send the corrected form so they can (hopefully) match it to your application.

If i send it now, most likely it will be lost?

Re: Common law question

should i also draft a letter going with the form to CIC informing them of the mistake in the date?

Re: Common law question

Yes, send in the corrected form and an explanation once you have a file number. They'll probably be understanding, since this is a common mistake. They won't accuse you of misrepresentation.

will this cause a delay in the processing?

Re: Common law question

Maybe. Every time they have to look at the application, it seems to delay things. We can't know for sure though.

Re: Common law question

But sending it now is pointless?

yes, assuming you applied outland, i would wait until you receive SA and you are given instructions about how to contact your visa office. at this point, all they are doing is looking at the application for completeness and evaluating the sponsor. the visa office is the one who handles the applicant's application, so it's best to send it to them directly. right now, if you don't have a file number or uci, there is no way for mississauga to connect your letter to the appropriate file.

And if this isn't corrected would it be considered misrepresentation and automatically denied?

no, if anything they would either ask you to redo the form or worst case, it would probably trigger an interview. they don't automatically deny an application without giving the applicant/sponsor a chance to explain the concern. pretty sure that would be illegal. i would recommend sending it as soon as your have the visa office info, so it can be added to your application before it's opened for review.

Who would receive the uci form, my sponsor ?

the UCI is a number. the sponsor will receive the sponsor's uci and the file number in the sponsor eligibility letter. so you will want to put both numbers on the letter, so it attaches to the right file. you won't have the applicant's uci until much later. after SA, you may be able to call cic and get it, though the file number will be enough.

Thanks rcohen, you have a wealth go knowledge appreciate the insight.

Several people have actually told stories on here that they mistakenly put the date down wrong like the OP did, and still got PR app approved no problem. They didn't actually discover the mistake until someone told them after they already had PR status. It's quite possible it's a common error, and the VO will notice and simply make the correction themselves.

At the very least, I don't think it warrants sending in a brand new doc update. If anything, they will first question you about it and request you to send a new doc if required, at which point you can do so. Of course if it will ease your mind to send an corrected doc as soon as possible, then there is nothing wrong with that either.
