Hello everyone,

I have got my PRTD and have some questions about it:

1) They put the PRTD visa sticker on which the category is mentioned as "R-1". What does this "R-1" mean?

2) Even though I had submitted my application in New Delhi visa office, but the visa has been issued at Buenos Aires. Why have they done that? Hope it will not be an issue at any point (travel start, transit, destination, etc.).

3) The Expiry Date is mentioned as 05/07/2022. Is it 05/JULY/2022 or MAY/07/2022 ? This is so confusing. Why can't they even put the date in the proper format clearly indicating the month with 3 letters? This confuses everyone - applicant, airline staff, transit airport staff (if any), etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

1. R-1 indicates that you have complied with the residency obligation; it is not under H&C.

2. No idea, maybe New Delhi was busy. I don’t see that there would be any issue.

3. Not sure, travel prior to the earlier date and there won’t be an issue.

For what it's worth, I've checked ours and they were all dd/mm/yy. So it should be July.

Two additional ways to check:

1) what is the issue date (I believe all visas/prtds issued have issue dates)? Usually that issue date is actually pretty close to the date you apply and receive - it's not some fake date, it's the actual date they print it. (I know yours was done in a different country for some reason - which doesn't matter - but the two-month difference should still be enough to figure it out.

2) ICAO (intl civil aviation org) sets standards for international usage of machine readable travel documents. Your prtd should be machine readable. If so, it MUST use the day - month - year standard (although month can be numeric or alphabetic, it must be in the middle.

The only reason I'm not putting this first as the most absolutely solid explanation possible - I'm not an expert so I can't say if there are exceptions or other issues.

Note: airport and airline people should know this. If you want, save a copy of that file on your phone and show them. They'll probably find you very annoying - but should concede the point. Or you can refer to ICAO standard IV-22-23 "Representation of Dates."

Of course, not a guarantee - I'm not an expert - and you can check with your airline to be sure.

Thanks for your reply.

The date of issue on my PRTD is mentioned as 05/07/2021. Again, there is no clarity whether it is 05/JULY/2021 or MAY/07/2021 ?
