Crossing US border as a Canadian citizen without Canadian passport

I recently got my citizenship and applied for passport - it will take another week and a half.

In the meantime, can I drive to the US with my other passport (I have a US visa there), come back with it and show my citizenship certificate to the Canadian officers upon return?

Off course you can. Just bring your citizenship certificate to prove your Canadian citizenship.
