I am interested in others' experience with the Canadian criminal rehabilitation process.

I received three DUIs in 1972, 1973 and 1975 respectiviely. I have travelled to Canada at least twice a year successfully in the succeeding years with no problem. In 2014 I was stopped at the border and told I was inadmissable because of the DUIs even though they were almost a half century ago and I had travelled to Canada regularly in the intervening years. Thus began a nightmare.

I hired an attorney and did all the legwork to achieve rehabilitation. Over a year after I filed the application I was rejected because I had not provided information on two states in which I had lived. Odd thing was that they had not asked for info on those states, only on those states in which the DUIs occurred. Neither my attorney nor the Canadian immigration people told me that was required. So, Iwent completely back through the process and now have been waiting almost two years for an answer.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I am no 72 years old and believe I'll be too old to travel before they get around to me.

How close do you live to a land border? If you're close, drive to the land border and try to get rehab approved there (make sure you bring all of the paperwork related to your offences). This can often be a much faster way for Americans to be approved for rehab.

Why did they not deem you rehabilitated since it has been more than 10 years since your last case.

Based on what we've seen repeatedly on this forum, if there are multiple offences involved, IRCC expect you to go through rehab even if the 10 years have passed.
