We submitted by husband's criminal rehabilitation application to the LA Visa office in Feb, 2015 prior to submitting our spousal application on Feb 18, 2015. A photocopy of the rehabilitation application was attached to the spousal application (e.g evidence of submission).

I was approved as his sponsor on April 20/15 and we understand his PR application has been forwarded to the Ottawa Visa office. Does anyone know how long it might take to process both applications in total? We will inform CIC Ottawa as soon as we receive the appl.# and UCI# of the criminal rehabilitation application which we should probably have at the beginning of September.

I just wonder how they will go about processing it and it would be helpful if anyone else went through the same thing. I guess I just hope the VISA officer in Ottawa will request the criminal rehabilitation application from the LA office and process both applications. That being said, I know that it is just as likely for his PR application to be sent to LA and have a VISA officer there deal with it.

We had an approved TRP/Rehab and had to send in another one after almost 1.5 years of CIC receiving the PR application...and we were told our application was in Ottawa in March 2015 and it was in LA as per case notes..

I did a rehab application for my wife a couple years ago and submitted it initially to a visa office. Her old DUI conviction was holding up her PR application.

I later found out that you can submit them at a port of entry so I submitted a second rehab application at the Detroit-Windsor tunnel. They processsed it in 3 days. When I told the CBSA agent in Windsor that I had already submitted another rehab application to a visa office he laughed and said they probably wouldn't open the envelope for a year. Unfortunatly, they don't seem to be very high priority items for CIC.

If there is any way for you to submit another application at a land crossing I would suggest doing that. It will be much much faster.

They would not let us do Rehab at the Border but that was in 2007 I think...Normally I think the border people are awesome but that time I am not sure if there was PMS involved or what...the person was way out grumpy...we did it the long way after

Yes, maybe you got the wrong person on the wrong day. The only condition on doing this is that the application must be submitted personally by the applicant who must then return immediately to the US to await processing. In our case, like the OP, the rehab app was holding up the PR app and the CBSA agent told me that in those circumstances they will expedite processing the rehab app.

See that is the thing I don't get...we had an approved TRP/Rehab but our PR case sat for 9 months, as per the case notes and no one touched it...We had at least 1.5 years left on the approved TRP when they rec'd on application

Similar story here. Only thing holding up my wife's PR was the criminality issue. Rehab was granted in March and then the file just sat around, no one looking at it, until 6 months later when PR was granted. It was very frustrating.
