Hi, I am a Canadian Citizen who has been with my gf, a U.S Citizen, for over 2 years. We would like to get married so I can sponsor her. However, she has 2 criminal charges...one that was as a young offender, (shoplifting, 13 yrs old), and one as an adult. (assault, 20 years ago.) My question(s) are, will these charges make her inadmissable? Is it worth the risk to pay the fees to get married, then pay the fees for the application(s) or will it just be a dead end? She is recently divorced, and has one dependant, who is 17 years of age for whom she pays child support. Does this variable affect the sponsorship/PR processes? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Who was the assault against and what was the specific conviction? This could be an "issue"...

It was her bf at the time's aunt. The other girl didn't press charges, but she believes the State of AZ may have. She had to go to anger management classes, so she is unsure if it was really even a conviction. I assume there was if she was sentenced to anger management classes. I guess we'll have to just get the F.B.I report to really know.

She is probably fine but you should work through the information at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/who.asp
