Hello,
There’s a company who’s possibly charging me against theft and fraud over $5000, anyone dealt with this before? What’s the consequences and being on a permit. How does it affect me? Every time I look online it’s says possible jail time but what’s the real consequence for an international student and what might help to avoid any sentence?

Is this a company in Canada?

If so, if convicted, you may not be able to renew your study permit or get a PGWP.

Get a criminal lawyer.

You need to give more details for proper answer , what exactly happened. If you are not guilty , nothing will happen.

I’m trying to meet with a criminal defence lawyer ASAP. But I’m not sure of the consequences and how it’ll affect me as even if the company withdraw the charges. The prosecutor might still not drop the charges and seek a sentence

If the charges are withdrawn then you should be fine.

If you are convicted, then you'll have a problem on your hands and this may very well create issues for your status in Canada and being able to remain in Canada.

I was involved in it and the company is suing for damages. If I agree to pay the damages. Will it still get sentenced or will might i face deportation as I’m on a visa?

You need to talk to your lawyer about this. This is too complicated a situation for an internet forum.

You need a criminal lawyer to help you in dealing with the criminal charges.

And you need an immigration lawyer to help you understand the impacts to your status in Canada.

You need to remind the criminal lawyer that he needs to consult an immigration lawyer about your case since the outcome will have longterm consequences on your ability to remain in Canada and enter in the future.

Hello everyone, thanks a lot for the valuable help and comments. I've been discussing with a few lawyers about it and the answer has been to wait to see if you're charged and then we'll see what to do. It's been 2 months already and I still didn't hear anything from that issue. Would anyone know if I could personally request an enhanced background check personally to find out about this issue? Or what time frame should I expect for them to contact me?
