So I have been thinking...

There is so much useful information on this forum but it is often in many different threads, you have to search for it and you might be missing useful information that you don't even know to search for. Also a lot of the same questions get asked over and over again and there are so many wonderful members who take the time to respond but perhaps it makes sense to have a lot of the frequently asked questions/tips etc. in a sort of guide format. This thread can be sticked at the top of the forum and perhaps no one can even add replies to it. I have seen this on other forums before and have often found it helpful.

What do you guys think?

Things that need to be considered:
- getting in touch with a moderator - to see if they agree, will "sticky" the thread, and if a thread can be created which no one could reply to
- who would write the guide? I wouldn't mind contributing to it (copying and pasting a lot of the great responses on here), but I'm not an expert and would definitely need help
- more importantly, who would update it? things are always changing and it would need some updating from time to time

I'm sure there are more points that need to be considered but I would love some initial feedback...

So thoughts?!?

Personally I don't care to see the top dozen or so topics cluttered with "easy" answers, like the ones most easily found in the Guide we should all read FIRST. There is ONE and a very valuable one at that, there already. For me, that is enough.

To clarify, I was thinking only one thread/topic with everything in there (one very long post).

There already is. The very top thread that is sticky'd. The very first post on page one of it is super long with a whole bunch of info and answers a lot of basic questions.

I think it would possibly be good idea if the moderators agree

i agree with truesmile, reading the guide carefully clarifies a lot already.. and the rest - you can search the exact info you need or post your question in the first thread (that is sticky already) or create another thread - i always got prompt answers. this forum never fails to provide me the help i need ;D

Well, the first post in the stickied thread was sort of what I was thinking but perhaps something more comprehensive and that sticks out a little more than just one post in a 1000 page thread.

Although reading the guides is very helpful, the answers on these forums are also very valuable. Sometimes things written here, in simpler English are much easier to understand.

I know everyone answers quite promptly, but sometimes maybe you don't know to ask a certain question. There have been a couple times when I read something here and thought "Well that would have been useful to know when sending my application in, I wish I would have read that before." ::)

Anyways, it was just an idea. Soblue3 and I seem to be the only people who thinks it is a good idea. Unless a lot of other people speak up saying they would find this useful, I guess I will let this slide. :)

The guide definiately doesn't answer all the questions someone might have. There are some subtle points that are not explained clearly in the guide. A while back I wrote a "step by step guide for inland sponsorship". If someone else wants to write one for outland too, i think it would be a good start for people who are just beginning this long and sometimes confusing process.

It would be quite a project that's forsure. but if someone wanted to start it they should use google docs so that once an initial draft was written, other members could go in and add or correct information.

With Outland there are a lot lot lot of things that are VO specific. and so answers to FAQs could be different for each VO.

I would contribute to it, but I don't think I have the spare time to start that project. Let alone have any clue where to get started. lol

very nice so far. i wish i had came across this site before submitting my application :D

To each his own, I suppose. We took a very minimalistic attitude putting our application together. So as you can imagine I'm GLAD that we DIDN'T find this site beforehand. Back then, people were boasting errr posting about the 7lb box (their application) that they had to courier to whatever address it was at the time.

I hear ya. Lol I def did not send 200 pictures and 100 pages of emails. Lol I guess we will see but if my interview is waived, that's all that matters to me. Only thing that was a lot for us was all of the skype call history, but that's more because it spanned over 2 years and the recent stuff that was skype to skype video chatting had to be printouts of screenshots so it was significantly more pages than if it had been just a log. All the skype stuff was probably 50 pagesish. I sent about 50 photos as well. Quality over quantity, right?
