Hi All,

I just received an email saying:

"This refers to your application for Permanent Residence in Canada. Your file has been transferred to the Case Processing Centre in Ottawa for further review.

In order for us to continue the processing of your application, we require the following documents:

- Passport/Travel Document: In order for us to continue processing your application, we require a valid copy of your passport or travel document. This must be received at this office by: 2014/12/04"

My passport expires in Feb, 2015. Are they asking for valid passport because mine has less than 6 month of validity?

I received RPRF request in July, 2014. So, I think this happened just before they send me the COPR.

I thought as long as I have valid passport they would give me COPR.

It is in your interest to send them a passport with longer validity. The PR card expires with the Passport.
I'd recommend you to apply for a new passport and send the new one so they can put the stamp on it.

EDIT: Call the CIC call center and get more details.

Is it mandatory to have at least 6 month validity on passport for receiving COPR?

Has anyone received COPR when there was less than 6 month validity on passport?

Well, this is confusing... in an earlier post you wrote:

"I've sent update request for my application because of new passport acquired in March, 2014."

You obtained a passport valid for 1 year? Is it a limited validity passport (from... ? )

If that is the case, that is the problem...

I think the validity of the VISA that comes with the COPR will relies with the validity of the passport.

That's what I thought too. I thought if my passport is valid for a few months, they would send me COPR which is valid for a few months.

They requested the copy by 2014-12-4. Is there a way to extend the due date? I don't think I can extend my passport and send it to CPC by that time..

I'd appreciate if you can explain more. What I know is that the PR Card is linked with the passport. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The PR card is valid for 5 years, regardless of the expiration date on your passport.

Thanks JES +1 for you , Yes that's what I wanted to convey :)

See my previous post. Not if you only have a limited validity passport.

I renewed my passport in Feb 2014 and I sent an email to CPC to update my information. I received a reply message saying that they will update the information.

So, as a reply to the email I received early this week (asking for valid passport copy), I sent a reply message asking if they have updated my information back in Feb 2014. I also asked if the reason why s\he asked me for valid passport was because I have less than 6 month left on passport, and told him I will renew my passport asap. Then I got the following email:

"We did receive the copy of your passport that you previously sent. We needed to confirm this information to prepare your landing documents. We do not require that you extend your passport validity at this time. Please be aware that we will be doing a final review of your application in the coming days and you will be notified of the outcome or whether additional information is needed soon."

Is this positive?..
