Hi - I have been here on a NAFTA work permit (almost 2 years) and therefore earned more than 5k in 2019. I was just laid off (end of March) and my work permit expires at the end of April. Following the expiration of my work permit I will have implied status as a visitor in Canada (I should have permanent residency in the next few months if processing times are not delayed). Once my work permit expires at the end of April, and assuming I do not yet have PR status, would I still be eligible for the Emergency Response Benefit over the next four months even under visitor status? Thanks for any insight.

I started my employment few months ago and earned less than 5k. Do you think i am eligible?
No - I don't think so. Unfortunately the $5,000 minimum in earnings appears to be mandatory.

Don’t believe you qualify for benefits after the end of your work permit but not 100% sure. What stage are you in in your PR application?

My permit is valid in April so it may be able to recieve the benefit for at least April. I submitted my med exam and biometrics about 1.5 months ago - expected processing time from that point was supposed to be April-May pre-Corona.

I graduated in January 2020 and have a work permit. I worked in 2019 as part of internship and had income above 5000k.
Am I eligible for CERB even though didnt work after getting pgwp?

No. You need to have actually had to stop working because of COVID-19 to qualify for CERB. As you were not working, you don't qualify.

As said above, you unfortunately won't qualify. To qualify for CERB you must have been working and then specifically stopped working due to COVID-19. You weren't working when COVID-19 hit and so don't meet the requirements.
