I hold a bachelors degree in Media Science ( multimedia )

And I want to apply for an associate in arts (general)

Would my choice be relevant?

Not really. I would consider a step backwards if you have a bachelors in media science. The choice of programs must make sense for career/education progression. I would consider a post graduate diploma or masters degree. Something more specialized.

At last , someone answered my question :)
I’m actually looking to start over , I graduated 2007, worked for a year or 2 .. got married, got 2 kids and now it’s been 10 years with study plus unemployment gap. I’m going to write a strong SOP to explain what I have been doing and why the change of career .
I have been volunteering every summer and want to work professionally.
Do you think I have a chance?
I could choose a relavent course but that wouldn’t be what I really want.

Yes you will need a very strong SOP. The struggle will be to prove why you would come to Canada to start a degree. I imagine you will want your family to come with you. Uprooting your family for a pretty basic degree that doesn’t lead to much seems much more like an attempt to immigrate. You will have to see but I suspect those will be the concerns.

Yes I’m very sure it will be the main concern. I have to make sure I cover this part in my SOP.

Thanks for replying back.
It’s very important we keep asking clear questions and answering with clear answers in the forum to help each other with experience.

I also noticed that your family has applied for EE. That will unfortunately not help matters. In general would discourage a general arts degree from a college especially given your previous education. It will not lead to any direct career opportunities.

No we have not applied for express entry yet, since our points would not get us anywhere.
I’m trying to get the prerequisites for Masters in psychology.
All the courses needed are in the 2 year diploma ( concentration in family studies)
It would definitely give me a good start here in Dubai and with a foreign diploma , I would work anywhere I want.

Are you sure the diploma courses would count as prerequisites for university masters degree? Universities usually require you to take univerisity level prerequisites. The system is not the same as in the US with community colleges and colleges/universities.

Well, let me explain.
In order for me to pursue a Masters degree in psychology I would need to have taken courses like:
Intoduction to Psychology
Psychotherapy
Psychology in health and adjustment
Family psychology
Conflict and conflict resolution
* (at least 3 courses )
Which if I were to take the diploma in Family studies then I would have the background needed.

With only the diploma in family studies , I could jump start my career in Dubai with a snap of my fingers and make a fortune.

A foreign diploma just instantly gives privileges here.

Also if I were to work part time as a student before I get back .. that would do wonders back in Dubai.

That is not really a general arts curriculum. Do a diploma in counselling. You would have a much better application then a general arts diploma. Just warning you that if you plan on pursuing a masters degree you will be competing with students who have done all their prerequisites at univeristy. That will be an advantage for them. If you want to do a counselling diploma I would apply for a specific program. A very generalized degree just doesn't look good given that you are a mature student wanting to bring their whole family to Canada and start a new career. Also stick with public colleges juat in case you decide you want to stay and in general for the quality of education.

I was going to go for a Counselling diploma and actually got a letter of acceptance but it turned out to be private college.
So now I’ve applied to langara and Capilano.. fingers firmly crossed.
I will take your advice though and look around.
In langara they offer Family studies and social services diploma and they both are packed with psychology courses and career pathways in youth psychology..
I also have the option of associate / diploma in psychology .
