hey,

My girlfriend and I are looking to move to Vancouver for 12-18 months. We are British nationals and both 26 (I will be 27 when we leave). My girlfriend is a graphic designer and looking for a new job there. I am a self-employed coach. We would like to move at the end of January.

It seems like there are a lot of options available to us, where do we begin?!

Simple as you are both under 30 apply for the IEC program when it opens later this year . It gives you a 2 year open work permit as UK nationals although getting anything by January might not work just depends when the 2019 program opens.

Time enough to see if you want to make it a permanent move by applying for an immigration program having gained the all important Canadian work experience. Assuming you qualify as common law or get married else you would need to apply separately for immigration.

Thank you so much. Would this mean after this, my girlfriend could apply for jobs or could she does this concurrently?

She can do it concurrently. However most employers won't be interested in considering her as a candidate until she has a valid work permit in hand.

Note that the IEC program for those from the UK is oversubscribed. Far more applicants than spaces available.

Agreed end of January likely isn't feasible for IEC.
