Counting my previous study time towards my work permit! Please help?

Hello!

I am not sure if I have found a topic related to this in the forum so just wondering If I can get your help please!

I did my studies in Canada from 2008-2010 . I immediately moved back to India after completion as I had some important issues to attend to. So I didnt apply for any work permit or whatsoever. I just moved back and my student visa expired (Obviously!) I am back now in Canada to do further studies so I am on a Student visa again. If anybody could help me answer the following questions , It would be well appreciated. Thanks in advance!

1) I have been in Canada now for 3 months. I know we need to be in the country for 6-8 months to apply for a work permit. Is it possible to count my previous studies in Canada ( 2 years ) towards my work permit now ?

2) Can I apply for a work permit immediately?

3) Or has my previous study time for 2 years gone completely waste and I have to stay 8 months more AGAIN to apply for a work permit?

As far as i know ...

you can't apply for PGWP on basis of your previous studies ..

The main reason if i go through the rules of cic is..

1. you have to apply within 90 days of completing your study

But study is never a waste my friend . I still suggest you to call CIC and explain your situation , there is 2 % chance but i think you should try calling .

Rules seem clear to me at least the OP completed studies in 2010 so had the opportunity to apply within the 90 day window for a PGWP not a 6 year window so would not even bother contacting CIC but just get on with requalifying on a new study permit. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad-who.asp

Agreed.

Beside 90 days rule, the gap between the two completed courses must not be more than 2 years.
