Hi Everyone..

I am a Singaporean currently doing my Diploma in Nursing and will be graduating next year. After completion of my Diploma course, I would like to pursue my education in Toronto. I have visited Toronto once and stayed there for about 2 months and I really like life over there. I am looking for a 1-2yrs of certificate courses in Counselling and also begin my career in Toronto.
Is there any 1-2yrs of counselling courses which I can take up in Toronto? Any options of schools you could provide me with?

Thank you! Looking forward to hear from you all!

What type of counselling are you looking for, as the programs are often specific.

Example: There are Adult Counselling, Addiction Counselling, Abuse Counselling, EAP (Employee Assistance Program) Counselling etc.

Well I am looking for either Adult Counselling or child and youth counselling. I am interested in these two areas of counselling so if I'm doing either one, I'll be satisfied about it. Are there Medical colleges which offer this type of courses?

I just re-read your first message and noticed you said 'Diploma' in Nursing, not 'Degree' in Nursing. In Canada this can (and may) make a difference. Many of the counselling programs have a pre-requisite for an undergraduate degree.

However you may want to investigate the Adler Institute in Toronto, as I know people who have their Coaching Certifications from there. I would also go online to some of the colleges like: Seneca College, George Brown College, Humber College and look at their online programs to see if you would be eligible for any of their programs, or if they are exactly what you're looking for.

What type of job are you hoping to get once you've completed this?

You may also want to check out the "Registered Nursing Association of Ontario" and see what they can offer: http://www.rnao.org/

Thank you so much for these options of schools.

Well I actually like to work in as a counsellor for patients who undergo depression and etc. Since I am in the medical field, I want to do something related to it. So yea Im hoping to become a councellor in a hospital.

Though I graduate to be a Nurse, I am not really keen in being a nurse. I've always liked to be a councellor.
I have 2 options for my career. First is being a counsellor but if thats not possible, then I would try to specialise myself in the nursing field.
So yea im trying to find for such short courses.
