House rent is so high, it sucks up most of the earnings.

Actually, in Dubai we pay much higher rents.
Toronto is way cheaper. And the other cities of Canada - much less (except Vancouver - an avoidable place for newcomers).

Hi Sabbir: I am sure many will find your figures helpful, but I wonder what year they are from? National Postage went up to 57 cents and will increase two cents each January until 2014. (Stock up on the permanent stamps you can buy without the amount on them). International Letter Rate is $1.70, but I have not heard yet what it will be next year.

@ Pippin - I ve given the source.

By the way, did you find any major anomaly in my post????........... changes in national letter charges 50 cents to 57 cents may not affect vigorously. But what about other essentials, if you ve further information, pls share....

Hi Sabbir - yes, mentioning Canada's soaring postage costs sounds petty in the scheme of things, LOL, but it was one item that was so many years out of date it made me wonder about the others. I have never lived in Toronto so have no working knowledge of their costs. As far as Vancouver goes, I'd say those prices are generally fair for no frills apartment/communications, but a $300 return flight from TO to Vancouver would be hard to find. A week in mid-January return is $410 + 166 taxes= $576 ($683 if you were to fly mid-December, $605 in July.)

With Toronto and Vancouver rent so high we should make a list of small cities that are cheap but nice and still have jobs for us to move into without spending al lof our savings in the first couple of months! That would be so useful!
