Anyone know the answer????

I received an email which states that I had been approved as a sponsor and that the application had been forwarded to the Canadian Embassy in Lima, Peru for further processing.
"This visa office was selected based on your relative’s home address and the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act." is what the letter states however I wanted to confirm that it has been sent to the correct location for further processing as my wife and I DO NOT live in Peru anymore.
My wife is Peruvian and I am Canadian but as of 01 April 2012 we both have been living here in the USA.

My concern is if the processing should take place in Lima, Peru as it has been directed or if it should be here in the USA where we live?

Thanks!

The office processing the application can be either nationality or residence. You can ask for one, but ultimately, it's CIC that decides which office.
They usually go for the one where the principal applicant has the most links... so in your case, because you live in the US but it's fairly recent, they chose the country of nationality.
To be eligible to go through the US office ( which is Ottawa...), you have to be admitted in the country with a visa of at least 1 year. So if your wife was admitted with a visa of less than a year, then the application is going to Peru.

Good luck,
Sweden

That's exactly why I am asking...we have been here on a visa for over a year. I sent the office an email asking them the same thing so hopefully they can either give me a switch or clarification. Big difference.....peru is 12-15 months whereas usa is 8 months standard processing time.

When did you submit your application to CIC-Mississauga? If it was before April 1, then at the time CIC received your PR if it was less than 1 year living in USA, this could be a reason you weren't eligible to have it processed there.

You might be lucky because Ottawa has been pretty busy and they keep closing offices in the US. We had a user here who went through Lima who got the whole process completed in less than two months. But there is no way to tell how things will happen for you whether you go though Lima or an office in the US.
wish you the best!
