Hi all, I am a US October applicant and will be transferring to my work's CA division once I have PR. Once I have the COPR, would this suffice as a work permit or do I need to wait for the actual PR card in hand? Thanks!

A COPR is merely proof you have been authorised to become a PR, not that you have done so. You will need your record of landing.

You need a SIN to work. You will need to land and activate your COPR before you can obtain a SIN.

As bcboundboy said, you need to 'activate' your PR by crossing into Canada with your CoPR (within the expiry date of the CoPR of course!).

Tell CBSA at the border that you want to start your permanent residence and hand them your CoPR and passport.

You can then have your PR card delivered to a Canadian address (40 - 60 days).

But you are then good to work from the date of activating your PR at the border (and yes, get a SIN number first, visit any Services Canada office - you can do that same day if you like).

You will also need to present your Canadian customs 'goods accompanying' and 'goods to follow' lists when you make you final settler trip to Canada (if this is not one and the same trip as activating your CoPR).

Thanks for clarifying!
