Hello,

I am just wondering if CIC actually contacts the employers you have (or have had) if you are sponsoring your spouse.

Also, there is a question on the CIC questionnaire for the person being sponsored asking who that person lives with. Are the visa offices going to contact the room-mates of your spouse or...? I am not sure why that question is important.

If anyone has any idea that would be great.

I suppose it's possible for them to contact employers, but I haven't heard of them contacting roommates.

They probably want your spouse's roommates to make sure your spouse isn't shacking up with another lover, as part of making sure the marriage is genuine.

Lol. I guess that is a good possibility. Or if it is some form of fraud marriage, perhaps the supposed spouse is living with their true family. Hmmm.

Thanks.

The visa officers investigating your case could contact employers, roommates, family, friends, neighbours, etc., but it is not very common. I've read cases where the visa officer even went to the applicant's home. One case was refused because when the visa officer went to their home, he found that the sponsor and applicant did not keep their clothes in the same closet. They must be just roommates, was his deduction. (I'm sure there were other problems as well.)
They want to know who the applicant is living with just in case it is proof of fraud.
