i would like to migrate to Canada with a PR, should i go through consultancy to make things faster or can i do it by myself, if so what are the procedures to be followed?

Just to add here, that assigning your application to an immigration lawyer will not speed up the procedure at all. You will just be a bit more relaxed as he/she will guide on the paperwork required.
As long as you read carefully CIC's website and the sticky threads mentioned to you before and you follow the instructions, you won't have any problem. Plus, you are going to save a few thousand dollars
