Considering applying for study permit at port of entry. Advice?

I am an American. I am currently in Canada right now, however considering going home to the states for the holidays. I haven't applied for my study permit, but I am considering crossing over to the states then crossing back into Canada and applying at the border. Has anyone done this with success? Also what is the procedure like? Do you just hand them the application and supporting documents, they look it over, and then give you a permit? I'm confused. Advice would be appreciated greatly.

yes i had seen someone apply at border crossing on this forum..search on this forum u may find that post.....i believe u have to give them all the required docs and in 1 hour u get the permit...
