Hi there!

Long story short, been in Canada for 8 months on Work and Travel visa and it expires in October.
Currently looking into ways of staying here permanently.

All this stuff is super confusing and in general I have so much on my plate right now that it's hard to handle everything at once, so I reached out to a lawyer to get an assessment based on my education/experience etc. I still don't know if to continue with a lawyer or not, because it just is so expensive, but this whole immigration system is so confusing.

Anyway, this is what I got back from her:

Age: 105

Education: 120

Language: If you score a 9 or higher on ALL 4 abilities = 124 if you score 7 on all four abilities: 68

Education + Language: 13 or 25 (depending on language exam results)

Foreign Work Experience + Language: 25 or 50 (depending on language exam results)

If you score 9 or higher your overall score would be 424, if lower you would have a score of 331. The last round of invitations issued were at a score of 450 and the previous ones were 451,452, etc.

This being said if you were to obtain an offer of employment from a Canadian Employer on the basis of an LMIA, you would be able to obtain an additional 50 points which would mean that you would have sufficient points to get an invitation to apply fairly quickly (provided that you get a score of 9 or higher in ALL four abilities).

So my number one priority is to get the English test done. I was initially planning on going for CELPIP, but read a lot of reviews that IELTS is easier for foreigners.

Now, my question is about LMIA. I might get a job offer, but I'm just wondering – how long do I need to stay with that employer?
Also, I freelance a lot, so I was wondering if anyone has an experience with self-employed status visa?

Thank you in advance!

Anna
