Dear All ,

I need your help on below query

I was doing listening practice exam and in one of the questions , I put answer as "Building" , while when checking the answer it was mentions as "building"

So does it mean my answer is incorrect as I put the first letter in Upper case ?

Please advise

It depends on the context of the phrase for example with the word "beautiful"

The house is beautiful: CORRECT
The house is Beautiful: Incorrect because there is no need to put a capital letter.

Beautiful and gorgeous: Correct, because you are starting to write the phrase with that word.
beautiful and gorgeous.: Incorrect because you have to start a new phrase with a capital letter.

Hope it helps :)

Does it mean , I will get 0 marks in exam if I put "Building" instead of "building" ?

Was your answer part of a sentence? or just by itself?

If part of a sentence and it's not the beginning word in the sentence - could be counted as a mistake

If it's just a single word answer - it's fine and shouldn't be a problem

Hello Cherry

From where you are doing practice for IELTS exam, do you have any source that you can share.

I couldn't find anything particular for General IELTS (not sure which one you are doing).

Regards

If you have word problem then write in capital letter in answer sheet .
For Example - BEAUTIFUL - then it is correct

If you have problem with whether to write a capital letter or not, a tip is to write in "all caps".

A general rule is that only words that needs a capital letter should have it -

For example: a city/country (New York, United States, Canada) or beginning of a sentence should have it also.

Because The.....Cabinet (bathroom is in the middle of the 3 words and since it's not at the beginning and it's not a city/country, it shouldn't have capitalized)
